AN INITIAL layout for the major regeneration of Exmouth's bus depot site has today been unveiled.

Although developer ASM and ASDA's proposals for the site are at a very early stage, the layout will give local residents an initial idea about the various elements of the regeneration scheme.

Included in the plans are a new sports centre and swimming pool, which are proposed to be developed on the site of the existing lorry park.

A separate building, on the site of the existing sports facilities, would incorporate a new library, ASDA supermarket, retail units and residential flats overlooking the estuary.

Throughout the site would be pedestrian, cycle and public transport links.

ASDA's Allison Darling said: "Our proposals at a very early stage and we have distributed them now purely to keep the public updated on our current thinking."

"We will be looking at the detailed design and layout of the scheme over the coming months and, once we have more detailed proposals, we will issue these and give the local community an opportunity to feed back their views."

"The layout we have published today is not a final plan, rather it is an initial idea which we will use as a basis for further progressing the scheme."

ASM Properties aims to submit a planning application for the scheme in Q3 2008. Ahead of this a detailed consultation programme, including a public exhibition, will be held.
