London, 21 November 2007: Communications agency ING MEDIA has won the PRCA (Public Relations Consultants Association) Campaign of the Year accolade for its ‘Forgotten City’ programme on behalf of Hull Citybuild, the URC leading the economic and physical regeneration of Hull.

The award, announced yesterday at a ceremony at KOKO, Camden, celebrates best practice across the PR consultancy sector. Judges praised ING MEDIA’s emotive campaign strapline ‘Hull – the forgotten city’ which ensured Hull’s plight during this summer’s severe flooding remained front page news and encouraged the government to offer additional support.

ING MEDIA’s challenge was to show Hull’s devastation was far greater than perceived and that the city was being ignored by both national media and politicians. The team, led by Sarah Webster, compiled hard-hitting facts and photography to pitch to news desks across the country within 24 hours and lobbied 10 Downing Street as well as local politicians. This was at a time when a new Prime Minister and terrorist attacks in London and Glasgow were dominating the news agenda.

As a result of the hard-hitting campaign, there were extensive bulletins on Sky News, Channel 4 News, Radio 4’s Today programme and BBC 2’s ‘Newsnight’ as well as feature length pieces in the nationals. In addition, Gordon Brown visited Hull and pledged significant additional financial support.

ING MEDIA MD Leanne Tritton said: “We were up against some formidable opposition so this win is a real credit to the team’s hard work and strategic insight.

Anja Hazebroek of Hull Citybuild said: “ING MEDIA was commissioned at incredibly short notice by Hull Citybuild on behalf of the city and did a fantastic job, creating a really strong strap-line and selling in the story nationally in record time.

“The campaign produced exactly the response we were looking for – widespread national coverage, securing a phenomenal level of support.
