Cofton Wales, specialists in large-scale brownfield land regeneration, has announced that construction work will start at Llanilid, near Llanharan, on Monday 13th August. The planned work comprises two separate projects; the first is the construction of four film stages for Dragon International Studios and the second project is an artery road to service the first phase of a mixed-use commercial development. The scheme was granted outline planning permission by local authority Rhondda Cynon Taff in December 2003 and includes consent for a business park, hotel and leisure facilities in addition to the film studios.

Cofton Wales will draw on its expertise as the UK's market leader in delivering serviced brownfield land to developers, for commercial and residential use, to oversee the construction of the development projects that it has subcontracted to two Wales-based experienced civil engineering firms. Dawnus Construction, whose credits include awards earlier this year for its Nelson Quay development in Milford Haven and fire service HQ in Carmarthen, has won a competitive bid to construct the four film stages. The artery road will be constructed by civil engineering contractor, Alun Griffiths, whose work was highly commended by the Institution of Civil Engineers at their recent annual awards. The company's current projects include infrastructure works for clients Caerphilly County Borough Council, City and County of Swansea and developer of Cardiff's St. Davids2 retail scheme at the heart of the city.

The two developments will be completed between April and June 2008. In the meantime Cofton Wales will complete the installation of a major foul drainage system to the site as well as bring in the primary utilities, power, water and gas, to service the development.

The Cofton Wales project has been approved to receive funding for infrastructure and other associated works to support the studios development from the European Union's Objective 1 programme, provided through the Welsh Assembly Government.
